[ FAQ ]

i decided to make an FAQ page so that hopefully you'll find it easier to glance through and find answers to those queries that tend to come up again and again. browse through to check if i've answered any of your questions here before mailing. thanks!

[ general ]

-what are falls?!
basically they're bunches of dreads, wool or anything else you might care to use that are mounted on either strips of materials like lace or elastic, or elastic bands. this means that you can put your own hair up into a ponytail or little pigtails, and tie the 'falls' on top, covering up your real hair and giving you instant big hair! i offer falls made up using mainly dreads and wool.

- how long will it take for my order to be completed?

i now only start making up orders once payment for them has been received. wool orders take less time to complete than dreads, as making the dreads themselves is a very time consuming process.
on average, your order will take from 3 weeks, and up to 4/5 weeks max for dreads. if you want to receive your hair goodies in time for a certain event, please make sure that you let me know when you first order so that i can check if i can have them ready in time.

- have you got any ready-made falls for sale?

i tend to make up falls and batches of dreads for specific orders, so i don't usually have any hanging around and ready to sell. i do put things up on ebay from time to time though [user name: k0hl], and i'll try to pop a note on the front page to let you know when i do!

- where will you ship to?

just about everywhere! US/australia/europe ... i'll let you know if there are any problems sending to your location.

- how long will my order take to arrive internationally once you've posted it?

usually 3-4 days =)
- i'm not in the UK but don't have a bank card to be able to use paypal. can i send cash instead?
no. i'd like to be able to accept alternatives from international buyers, but there are just too many things that can go wrong, making it a very frustrating process!

- do you accept returns?

i'm afraid not, but i email pictures of all orders before i send them off, meaning that you can let me know if you're not happy with anything so that i can make adjustments if needed.

[ dreads ]

- what do you make your dreads from?

i use kanekalon jumbo braid - i find that it gives good results, and it's much more affordable than straight silky hair. i also steam my dreads into shape, which reduces the crispy 'velcro' effect that hairdryered dreads can have.

- how long does my hair need to be to attach dreads?

if you're after a dread kit, it'll have to be at least 3 inches to be worth it. any shorter and the dreads just slip out, which can be very frustrating.

for falls, it has to be long enough to form secure bunches/ponytail for them to be mounted on, but liberal use of hair pins can get them to stay put in shorter hair ;)

- which length of dreads should i order?
generally, my normal length dreadfalls will come to roughly shoulder length when attached. extra long length dreadfalls generally reach between chest and waist length, but just let me know if you'd like a specific length. i can also do very short, spiky dreads if you'd like.
remember that with the dread kits, you'll be attaching the dreads all over your head ... this means that ones put in lower down will reach a lot further than ones popped in at the top of your head, so normal length double ended dreads create a layered look and actually reach to around chest length and lower!
- what are your falls mounted on?
i've experimented with different materials for the mounts, but i'm now offering a choice - i usually pop them on lace, but if you'd prefer thick elastic then let me know when you order.
- can you match my real hair colour for a natural look?
if you send a good picture of your hair colour then i'll do my very best to choose or blend a colour that'll match it =)

- how do i take care of my falls/dreads?

with just a bit of care and attention your falls should last for ages. try to store them somewhere where they won't get bent out of shape, and give them a blast of febreze or something similar to get rid of any nasty smells that get into them over time.

you should be able to pop batches of loose dreads on a gentle washing machine cycle [inside a delicates bag or pillowcase] between wears to freshen them up, as they've spent all of that time on your head ;).
- how long can i keep my loose dreads in for?
if you put them in securely, they should last until you get a fair bit of root growth, at which point they'll probably become a bit loose. it's generally best to take them out around the 3 month mark if you've kept them in for that long, otherwise your real hair at the roots can start to get matted and dread up :/ remember, all of my batches of loose dreads can be re-used!

- can i wash my hair with my loose dreads in?

yep - you need to keep your scalp clean to keep the itchies away [ a couple of times a week, if that, is fine ], but you don't need to get the actual dreads sopping wet and covered in shampoo. i usually put them up in a big bun to keep them out of the way, then scrub my scalp clean and let it the shampoo rinse away. you might want to tie a plastic bag around your dreads to stop them from getting wet, but being made from synthetic fibre, they tend to dry out quite quickly.

[ wool ]

- can i order a full head's worth of wool from you?
in short, no. if you'd like to have a go at braiding in a whole head of wool for a semi - permanant wooly look, head straight to a wool supplier. if you're after falls that have been made up using wool, that's where i come in!
- will colinette/roving look like real dreads?
wool roving can look amazingly like natural dreads. a lot of people advertise colinette's 'point 5' wool as 'dreads', but it isn't - it's a chunky variety of wool that doesn't actually look all that dread like ;) it's gorgeous, but it's thick-thin-thick-thin rather than a uniform thickness, like dreads.
- which colours are available?

choosing wool shades is a lot harder than with synthetic hair ... both wool suppliers' wool shades are usually made up of more than one tone rather than solid colours like 'blue'/'pink' etc. you'll have to head to the colinette or roving supplier's website and choose an appropriate colourway. i'm always on hand to offer advice on the shades and help give you an accurate idea of the colours.

- how can i keep my falls clean?
wool can pick up a bit of a musty smell when damp, but again a good spritz of something like febreze should get rid of smoky/gross smells.
